I had a 1960 bug with the screaming 1.2, and can vouch for the gas mileage being poor by later standards. Strikes me it wasn't much better than about 20/imperial gallon. 62 mph on the level, flat out, no wind. Got mine up to about 90 down a long hill with a good load just before the engine blew. Coincidence. I think red line was about 2800 rpm. Light enough that 2 people could lift up an end and move it for tight parking spots. You could do a beautiful emergency brake 360 between 2 rows of parked cars on a residential street after about 3 beers. Sure hope my kids aren't the idiot I was.
