Evan.

I am in agreement with Slacker here. This should not be a "good cop UDC management / bad cop shareholders" scenario. This should be a principled negotiation. UDC provides significant VALUE from the technology that it developed and that it CONTROLS.

This is a case of principled negotiation. As long as the CONTROL and VALUE are in tact then UDC needs to hold out for a scenario that reflects that circumstance.

As far as stopping material shipments are concerned...

The resilience of the early Qualcomm model and the UDC model is that they controlled both the IP and the physical means to produce the end product. This allows the company to wield a real time "stick". UDC is not solely dependent on court rulings. Should they not reach agreement UDC can negatively effect Samsung's operations in real time.

Why aren't they using their stick?...

I sincerely hope that the current grace period is short lived. Every moment that Samsung feels they will not achieve agreement with UDC is a moment that they can work on their material supply path to alleviate the pain of UDC's real time stick and push the situation to a drawn out situation in the courts.

My hope...

UDC has developed and CONTROLS technology of huge VALUE to Samsung. I hope that they use their position as both a material supplier and a technology licensor to receive fair value from Samsung for their achievements.

I will also reiterate that as new manufacturers work hard to enter the AMOLED market it is not in UDC's best interests to further Samsung's structural advantage vs. other OLED producers.
