|Delphi is splitting. One company, Aptive (APTV) will run develop connected and autonomous cars while Delphi (DLPH) sells gasoline and electric transmissions.|
Just prior to the split Delphi bought Nutonomy which plans to introduce robotaxis to SIngapore next year. Aptiv is working with Intel and Mobileye using lidar as a central part of their system.
The CEO of Delphi (prior to the split) doesn't see a market for self-driving vehicles for individuals until after 2025 because the cost of the lidar drives up the cost to between $80K and $150K. Clark estimates that price will fall to $5k by 2025.
Tesla severed its relations with Mobileye recently They are going it alone, eschewing lidar, and hope to get a viable system based on cameras and radar. If they're successful they'll have a cheap system suitable for individual owners before 2025.
