The soon-to-be ex-wife of billionaire activist investor Bill Ackman could deliver him the ultimate short squeeze — because the divorcing couple has no prenup, Page Six can exclusively reveal.

This means that his wife, Karen Ann Herskovitz, could be entitled to half of his estimated $1.65 billion fortune.

On Friday, Page Six reported that the couple had begun telling friends that they were separating. No divorce paperwork has yet been filed, but it is expected early next year.

One friend told us, “They have been together for a long time — 25 years, and married for 22. They married before he made his fortune. She was by his side and raised their kids while he made the money. There was never any talk of a prenup.” That move could eventually cost Ackman more than his famous bad bet on Valeant.

Other friends insist the Ackman split is amicable and that “this isn’t about money.” But we’ve reported on enough big-money hedge fund divorces to ponder if that position could change in the new year.

The hard-charging Pershing Square founder and his landscape architect wife, with whom he has three daughters, began telling friends via email on Thursday that they have separated.

The email reads: “It saddens us to share that after 25 years together, we are separating. It is an amicable split, and we are making sure that we minimize the impact on our girls. We value your friendship and greatly appreciate your support. Love, Karen and Bill.”

Up for grabs in the divorce is an immense portfolio of property.

In 2014, Ackman bought the $90 million trophy penthouse at the glittering new One57, which he described as “the Mona Lisa of apartments” because it is a one-off masterpiece, which he “bought for fun.” But he doesn’t actually live in it. He and his family reside in a $35 million apartment at the Beresford off Central Park. They also have a waterfront estate in Bridgehampton bought in 2011 for $22 million, plus a second $23.5 million manse nearby.

A spokesman for Ackman didn’t comment.
