Colorado location is the former MDI, a tools company that Sybase acquired when Hoffman was on an acquisition binge (Powersoft, Gain, MDI, some consulting company in the UK, itty-bitty companies here and there). No big news about the MDI lay-offs; they've been happening all over the company any way.

Agree with your comment re DBMS licenses. Gotta have new customers to sell the add-on services/support/training, and it ain't happenin' at SYBS. Existing customers can provide only so much incremental business, and there's plenty of competition for Sybase in the post-sales business.
