Paratroopers were one of the first "special operations: forces to appear in the early 20th century. While no longer needed for mass jumps, the paratroopers are still popular as elite infantry.


Huh?
Here are 2 large examples. There are others.

The 82nd Airborne Division parachuted into Panama.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade parachuted into Northern Iraq.

The threat of an 82nd parachute assault caused the Haitian leader to step down.
2 Battalions of the 82nd attached to the 75th Ranger Regiment were scheduled to parachute into and secure Baghdad airport as an airhead.
