Some products you listed there found LOTS of false positives on my machine, very nasty ones, I researched it and it was bogus, 100% false. Every week when I run Spybot and Malwarebytes, I get zero, maybe some tracking cookies, but they are not that serious. Last time I spoke to Malwarebytes, they told me it's not necessary to scan in safemode.
It all depends where you are surfing on line as well. Thats the biggest problem, and if you are not surfing porn, file sharing sites, or opening attachments your friends are sending you, your chance of an infection is low, as long as you have a good antivirus software package installed. Most of these will block a site and not allow it to install malware on your system.
I use ESET NOD 32, and it's the best one I have used in years. Yes it costs money, but I like the free phone support. Where you can get answers to your questions instantly, from a person in the USA. Like last week when I ran a scan of my HDD, and found 12 infections, in Java cache. I found that very strange, I called the company, explained what I found, he instructed me to clear the Java cache and re-scan, it was clean. He said that was from the software blocking a rouge site trying to install malware, it did not install, but left some harmless remnants in the Java cache that NOD 32 picked up. |
