MS is going to invoke a new method: Embrace and Retard (instead of Embrace and Extend, which IIRC was their mantra in the Dos - Win shift). Now they must embrace the touch/mobile paradigm, while at the same time attempt to assert the dominance of the old keyboard based apps in order to validate the importance of backwards compatibility.
