Digitimes Research: 2Q12 global shipments of tablet PCs down nearly 15%

A total of 20.07 million tablet PCs were shipped globally by ODM/OEM makers to international vendors in second-quarter 2012, slipping by 14.9% on quarter, according to Digitimes Research findings.

Of the shipments, only about 750,000 or 3.7% were equipped with OGS (one glass solution) touch screens while the remaining came with GG (glass-glass) or GFF (glass-film-film) touch panels.

Taiwan-based ODM/OEM makers shipped 16.85 million tablet PCs in the second quarter and 34.8 million units in the first half of 2012, accounting for 84.0% and 88.1% respectively of the global total.
