I suspect the story of SI would not be a big seller, although we do have some good stories from touring the VC firms in the valley. We had the privilege of meeting with all the bigwigs: Vinod Khosla, George Sarlo, Hummer Winblad, SoftBank, Kleiner Perkins, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and a handful of others. We managed to piss them all off eventually and got a reputation as "uninvestable". We weren't willing to give up control of the company.

The meeting with George Sarlo was the funniest. He was so mad at us by the time we left I thought his head might ignite. As the elevator door was closing, Jeff yelled "bye George!" in the most condescending voice I'm sure any VC has ever been subjected to. We were immature kids from the Midwest, without Ivy league degrees, and didn't know the first thing about kissing anyone's ass.

As a whole VCs are a highly arrogant bunch, but the partners at Hummer Winblad stood out as decent people.

As for the future, I share your bleak outlook for the world monetary system. Fortunately SI doesn't have a business model to lose, so it should survive the GREAT RESET in tact.
