<<scientists open to new ideas are drawing closer to accepting the existence what is generally called the spiritual realm. Studies of "near death experiences" and "out of body" experiences are becoming mainstream. >>

While it's entertaining and even stimulating to ponder, there is absolutely zero evidence of the supernatural. ZERO. Show me evidence, I am waiting and willing to evaluate it. So is this fabulous organization that has a standing reward offered for many years; nobody has collected. randi.org

There are scientists biased by various things that are discounted by transparency in the scientific method. For example, knowing the private company who pays them... Or the "Christian" scientists teaching "intelligent design" which is merely creationism rebranded as science. Or those who don't think global warming is real and that scientists and studies are "liberal biased."

There are "religious people" doing wonderful work; there are atheists who suck(ed) at altruism and charity, for example Ayn Rand.

While I agree religions (faith in a supernatural) can and must co-exist in our free society, they are hardly compatible processes to knowledge and "truth" or in the case of Religion, "Truth." As they say, "freedom of religion" plus "freedom from religion." There is a commandment in the Ten Commandments that FORBIDS you from believing any any God but one specific one. Thats where the biggest historical threat to religion resides.
