Steve,
SI does not cower to legal threats (or even lawsuits), and whether or not we receive them has nothing to do with posts getting removed or suspensions.
We do sometimes remove posts that appear to violate the Terms of Use, if specifically brought to our attention. There is no legal requirement for us do so, especially in the case where you might have found the information elsewhere on the net, but we do it as a courtesy. We do our best to treat privacy violations as consistently as possible.
Here is the relevant excerpt from our TOU:
However, you subject yourself to possible suspension and/or termination if you do any of the following:
Use Silicon Investor for illegal purposes or for the transmission of material that is unlawful, harassing, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene, tortuous ("tortious" or whatever -- you know what we mean), improper or otherwise objectionable.
Please don't post personal info. If you are not sure where to draw the line, we'd appreciate you taking a more conservative approach (i.e. as opposed to seeing what you can get away with). Brad |
