Qualcomm continues to work on better 2nd & 3rd generation solutions while many of the other folks in the field are just getting started. It would be nice to get product into the market before others bring their initial offerings to fruition though. The bezel issues might be more a matter of high resolution with touch receptors rather than a front lighting requirement. Ever component needs to minaturized and having that capability come about is all just a matter of time, experience and, of course, the R&D spend. A confluence of success with many items is what we all await.
