There has/is always the question of 'who is a jew.' The scholars get all particular about it but in practicality most people just figure a common link in history is 'nuf said. Ruth, that destitute moabite woman (non-Jew) would be grandma of King David. Now there is a Jew who made quite a splash in the puddle of his day, and who would be followed in lineage by Jesus. So, what's the big deal if Jesus winks at non-Jews or not? Ruth was so cool, she got her own book in the OT.
