Does Apple or the carrier own the consumer more?
I agree that the telecoms are getting beat up but I don't know too many people who are upset with that other than their shareholders. Carriers have bullied folks for too long. Telecom companies are not popular and the only thing that keeps people from switching more often are the penalties and general feeling that it is the same no matter which carrier you are with.

As for Apple, can you think of a company the "owns the consumer" more? The loyalty is there. I know people that had never owned an Apple product and now are Apple people just from having a first experience with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Apple has their attention, not the carriers.
