Follow-up, I understanding Philippines delegation right now in Beijing talking specifics of joint development of dispute zone w/ interested parties, and that USA authorities are less than happy for whatever reasons having not one iota to do with peace n tranquility - cannot imagine why but does not matter in the big pic. Peace shall hopefully be preserved and bilaterally. Japan and Korea are interested in the outcome as n when, of course, because each has similar issues with china and more importantly, with each other. Unsure where Taiwan stands or sits, but certainly a stake holder with disputes with both Japan n Philippines. Apparently china drew the red line w/ Washington very recently in effect advising team USA to bud out as china shall not appease USA direct / proxy expansionary imperialistic ambitions or rearguard empire dreams. If china's claim to the south china sea ('the dashed lines') and the islands w/i the boundary is in doubt, then a lot of other claims by almost every state shall be similarly in doubt, per exactly same or stronger logic. Let us watch n brief to see how events evolve.
