All things Apple are definitely cool now, and Hollywood loves cool. How long this love affair will last is anyone's guess, but I hope it does for years to come.
Macs are far more popular here in Los Angeles/Hollywood than PCs, at least from what I see in client's homes and places of work, especially those in the entertainment industry. They are far more prevalent in the studios, too.
If you go to any Starbucks in this area, you will see people sitting at tables banging away on MacBooks and MacBook Pros all over the place, with just a few PCs. If you didn't know what the overall market share numbers are, and were judging just by what you see in those places, you wouldn't think that Windows is a very successful operating system.
When I was working for a consulting company here, a number of years ago, one of our clients was a small production house. They had about 14 Macs, and two PCs. The great majority of my service calls to them involved the PCs.
Creative types work long hours, and often have tight deadlines. They are very impatient with computers that don't work. |
