Doren, I believe Apple may well use LiquidMetal to create a "breakthrough" product, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the product will be a whole new category of device. Similar to the term "mind-blowing," breakthrough can mean different things to different people.

The properties of LiquidMetal may make possible designs that wouldn't be practical with other materials, including portable computers, tablets, and smartphones with very thin, yet strong cases. It could be used in hinges and other parts that are subjected to physical stresses in daily use. I'm sure Jony Ive and the rest of his design team are way ahead of me in imagining what can be done.

However, as the article notes, it is going to take a few years to perfect the manufacturing techniques and equipment that will enable Apple to take advantage of those properties.
