Latest Android NDK Fully Supports the MIPS Architecture

"Today, most Android applications are completely portable and available for MIPS-Based Android devices. However, a small percentage of applications still benefit from native code for performance reasons. Application developers who choose to use native code can generate that code for execution on MIPS-Based Android devices simply by using this official Android NDK. The Android NDK Release 8 includes the required tools, system headers, libraries and debugging support for MIPS."

It has taken some time, but this is an important piece of the infrastructure needed to fully compete with ARM in the smart phone and tablet markets.

Looks easy to use as well:

"By default, code is generated for ARM-based devices. You can add mips to your APP_ABI definition in your Application.mk file to build for MIPS platforms. For example, the following line instructs ndk-build to build your code for three distinct ABIs: {APP_ABI := armeabi armeabi-v7a mips}.Unless you rely on architecture-specific assembly sources, such as ARM assembly code, you should not need to touch your Android.mk files to build MIPS machine code."
