Of the 15 election years since 1950, where the data starts, 9 (60%) have been up years and 6 (40%) down. Of the 6 down years during the May-Oct period, only two stand out: '56 at -7.0% and '08 at -27.3. The other 4 down years have an average decline of -3.15%.
