Apple's lead in smartphone units was always temporary. They were never going to be able to maintain that without competing in more price segments.

Hmmm, I wonder if the 3GS will be discontinued when the iPhone 5 launches or whether Apple would be willing to keep it around for prepay markets at another reduced price point.
