What do we know about the acid-recycling plant in Alabama? Does it work? It seems that this is a big operation, not a small German company, and you would think that they could not screw up!
It is hard to imagine that the acid recovery tech might not work as described. Do you think RB and his crew could have pulled the wool over Rusal eyes like that? It is hard to imagine that successful people like that would not have a few smart people around asking questions! No?

While ThyssenKrupp is one of the world's largest steel producers, the company also provides components and systems for the automotive industry, elevators, escalators, material trading and industrial services. 
This is not your back alley operation! It is hard to think that they would use the Siemag process and it wouldn't work! I mean German are not stupid people and German engineer would commit suicide if that were to happen! :)

Price fixingIn November 2006, five elevator manufacturers, including ThyssenKrupp, were found guilty of price fixing by the EU, over 9 years,  along with Otis Elevator Co., Schindler Group, Kone and Mitsubishi Elevator Europe. A few months later on 21 February 2007, ThyssenKrupp was fined US$629 million (€479 million) by the EU (Otis was fined $295 million).  The EU Competition Commission reported that the companies had worked to rig bids for procurement contracts, share markets, and fix prices between at least 1995 and 2004.  The Commission reported that the companies "did not contest the facts" found by EU regulators, noting none of the accused requested a hearing to answer the allegations.The fines totaled US$1.3 billion.

sms-siemag.com regeneration.SMS Siemag regeneration plants use fluidized bed and spray roasting technologies to recover 99.8 percent of the acid from pickling processes for recycling. Every hour, an average pickling mill generates 10 to 20 m3 of spent acid. That's around 20 to 40 tons. Disposing of this quantity takes one to two tankers per hour. The latest development at SMS Siemag also sets new standards of energy saving. Hydrothermal acid regeneration is a chemical process that takes place at a maximum temperature of 170° C. Conventional methods require a process temperature of 700 to 900° C, which consumes much more energy.
