With your "let's say" example,

Amazon pays the publishers $12 for a best seller,

and Apple pays the publishers $7 for the same best seller.

That's not stable. Apple makes 30% and Amazon makes (16.7%).

Even if Amazon sold it for $15, and so did Apple, Apple would keep 30% or $4.50 and the publisher would get $10.50, but Amazon would pay $12 or $1.50 more.

Amazon would have to sell it for 12/.7 or $17.14 for Apple to sell it for the same price and both companies make the same gross profit and pay the publisher the same $12.

I bet the USDOJ has done the math. And so have Amazon and Apple.

And Jeff Bezos has been laughing a lot.
