I hadn't realized how simple the explanation is for gold's performance--or just forgot.

My understanding is that this largely reflects the dollar/euro relationship, so should the euro stengthen, the dollar price of gold should rise. Sooner or later, though, gold will gain traction against all world fiat currencies. I see no sign yet of much interest in owning gold inside the United States.
