A rare New Years night with the those hippies from "'N'awlins The Neville Brothers doing Iko Iko

youtube.com

Some friends invited me to go New Years to see the Grateful Dead with NB's and this video actually has great quality , at this time these guys held all Touring box office records that even Michael Jackson , the Stones or U2 couldn't beat . So popular were they The Neville Brothers after this run were catapaulted into the national spotlight & their fortunes were truely made , especially Aaron Neville who then went solo with great success .

(Also Dr John's career was helped immensely when he took a turn opening & playing for them )

Though barely watched quality Youtube vid & maybe now drifting into legacy of past decades of musical eras , this would be as good a night as any to remember Jerry Garcia who was in top form & great spirits that evening, though not long for this world . Met pro basketball player Bill Walton , Ken Keysey , Waavy Gravy, lyricists Robert Hunter & John Barlow , some CEO's of Silicon Valley tech companies & out in the parking lot by an old friend & gem dealer's car up from Brazil , along came a fellow Doug Irwin introducing himself as the one that made the guitar Jerry's playing in the vid . And had a wonderful impromtu chat in a night filled with serendipty ...

Note: in the closeups of Garcia's guitar "Tiger" dueting with the NB's guitarist, went onto to sell for a world record of almost $1mil twice that of the next high seller which was "Brownie" that Eric Clapton played on Layla . (Irwin spent 1000's of hours in the making )
