You can also create a "SubjectMark" by clicking on "Mark as last read" on any public message. Then under your SubjectMarks icon

it will tell you how many messages have been posted since that message.

Here's part of my list of SubjectMarks:



If you then click on the number in the NEW column, it will take you straight to the most recent unread message. Reset will mark the last message in the subject as having already been read (even if you haven't).
