I inquired with Customer Service as to how one goes about direct registering shares in my IB account. The reply follows. Is this consistent with the understanding everyone else has?

"IB hold all shares in street name only so you cannot direct register. IB also does not offer paper certs unless we are required to, which may occur due to a corporate action or securities regulation. There are firms that will allow direct registration and paper certs so if you want this you could transfer out the shares. Check with the company you hold stock in and inquire if they can recommend a broker or stock holding company. Please respond with any questions."
