CR technologies are being absorbed in part into 3GPP and IEEE WWAN standards.. but that is akin to being 'assimilated by the BORG'.

WiFi was a fluke in that it made a far larger impact on that habits of consumers beyond being an alternative to wired Ethernet. That was because it had the intent of being user deployed and rode the increased capabilities and higher integration and lower costs of silicon.

Once WiFi became viral, the BORG mobile industry co-opted it: snapping up much of the early WiFi HotSpot movement and starving off access to additional spectrum, particularly any clean lower frequency spectrum, that might have been used to provide a platform for wider area use.

The criminality in that is that WiFi is the most densely deployed segments of spectrum at, by far, the lowest cost per bit burger served. What we are left with is 'Eat at the Ritz' or starve... Mc Donald's has been bought out and shuttered. Ie. the more effective, lower cost alternative to locking up of spectrum under monopolies.

So long as IEEE and other standards groups and the FCC are pressured by omnipresent BORG assimilation, the promise of CR will be quashed.
