Astoria and the coastal plane can be wet; it varies from rain forest to the dry sand dunes near Florence, Oregon. The coastal ranges and the high Cascade mountains are separated by numerous fertile river valleys that are bread baskets; as is the Willamette Valley in Oregon. East of the Cascades the high desert plateaus can be dry and sunny year round.
