Ahh ok. Yes, if the Volt ended up having to use the gas engine in a typical hybrid "parallel" setup to drive the wheels that would be a big (and disappointing) deal. Glad it didn't happen.

The MPG number's being tossed around (for the Leaf too, which uses no gasoline at all since it has no gas engine) are useless. Actual achieved MPG for the Volt could range from essentially infinite for drivers that always stay within the electric-only range to numbers lower than a Prius for drivers that drive long distances beyond the battery range causing the gas engine generator to run most of the time.
