As a Catholic I have been to Yad Vashem and found it to be very emotional. The World needs many more 'Historical Memorial Museums' like Yad Vashem to keep the public aware of the worlds historical tragedies - so we do not repeat them. Atrocities from every war and acts of racial, ethnic or religious genocide should be memorialized in Museums like Yad Vashem or in Monuments like the Vietnam Monument in Washington D.C.
Greater awareness will lead to greater understanding and hopefully to peaceful societies one day. We need these types of horrors out in the open not hidden away in history books.
Yes - Western Europe & the Western Hemisphere need to be more open about publicly acknowledging war atrocities both historically and in modern warfare and conflict. Otherwise history will repeat itself - and the next time Christians may very well find themselves being the victims of mass exterminations.
