yes they are.
prices have dramatically come down for a few years.

the key is sensor sizes.
the bigger the size, the better the image indoors, unless you operate with lots of lights. unless you are in a studio or have a lighting assistant, that is usually not the case.

so, the enemy to all these camcorders is low light.

that is measured in terms of lux.
a lux of 0 would be ideal but you may not need that.
3 to 5 is enough for a well lit room for great looking HD results.

so, look for ones with a sensor at least 1/4", 1/3" then would be even better. more than 1 even better still. but more than 1 at 1/6" does not make it better than just 1 at 1/4". confused?
yeah, it's crazy!
