Actually, I quite liked the rant. I don't know to what extent the current global meltdown is a planned effect of deeper forces, and to what extent its the usual human folly and hubris.
But I think the conspiratorial viewpoint is a valid one. IMO, there is indeed a hidden hand in history ... ever since I first read Carol Quigley's Tragedy and Hope (Quigley was Bill Clinton's professor at Georgetown BTW), and its description of the hidden hand of Anglo banking powers in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, I've been keenly interested in this dynamic.

I mean, you don't have to call them Illuminists ... but you could. It's the class of financial and political uber-elite of which Quigley speaks, and whether they are in some manner descended from 18th century Bavarian political movements is pretty much irrelevant.
Actually, I like Peter Dale Scott's term "deep politics" to describe this subterranean dimension of "deep" political movements. The link below is a video of Peter discussing the topic of "deep politics" (which in the video he refers to as "parapolitics"):

Of course, Gary Webb after he lost his entire livelihood being blacklisted by the mainstream media after his extraordinary reporting, committed suicide a few years back. The force with which the mainstream press attached Web after he reported on his Dark Alliance series was breathtaking. It left me thinking "Holy crap, does someone every have some serious power to be able to coordinate a disinformation campaign against Gary Webb like that" ... when he had actually posted court transcripts backing his story on the San Jose Mercury News' website.

I believe there were/are high-level criminal and elite machinations behind this social and economic rupture. I may be wrong, but it's certainly not out of the question, and this class of folk have pulled stunts like this before.
As Kurt Vonnegut repeatedly says in Slaughter House Five, "and so it goes".
