Notebook: AMD or Intel chip better for playing games?
I have received less than helpful information talking to salespeople at Best Buy and Circuit City about whether AMD chips are preferred by gamers.
Somewhere I heard, a good year ago, that gamers prefer AMD chip computers. Now I am shopping for a notebook under $800. for my cousin's 9th grade son. Although the purchase is for his school work, _not_ to play games, I have convinced his parents, without any effort, that being a kid, he will use the notebook to play games so this should be taken into account when a notebook is purchased.
I am going to get him either a HP or Toshiba, but it's the chip I need some comments on in making the decision as to which model. All my computers, desktop and notebook, have had Intel chips. Besides a statement in the past that gamers like AMD chips, all I know about them is that they are cheaper.
Maybe it's the lower cost of an AMD chip that makes gamers prefer them? So they can spend the money saved on other things for the computer (including a better monitor)??
