You said " there is no protection against a bombshell announcement ".

I am just finishing Nassim Taleb's second book "The Black Swan". I have also read his first book "Fooled by Randomness". Mr. Taleb, amongst other things made his money as an options trader. He deals with this very point, and actually blows it out of the water. He believes that bombshells are the norm in financial markets as well as everything else.

I would encourage at least a glance at the "fooled" book. I think it costs about $15 on Amazon. I think it would be worth everyone's time.
