OFF TOPIC BUT IMPORTANT

I had a strange thing happen today while trading 3COM with E-Schwab. entered a market order and after 3 minutes changed it to limit when I saw the volume go up and price start to fall. new order was excepted by the computer and the market order was changed to a limit order. About 10 minutes later I received a confirmation back via schwab computer that both trades had been executed. !

Subsequent conversation with schwab broker revealed that when entering a market order with schwab, the order is good until the end of the trading day and can not be changed or cancelled. It appears that the MM can execute at their leisure if they so chose.

This could be very important to all investors when the volume is heavy as it was today in this stock, and is particularly important when trading in an IRA.

In this case I actually made money, but it could have caused a disaster since I was trading in an IRA and the double execution could have driven me over the amount of money in that account.

Any other experience or commments?
