IBM to Demonstrate Innovative Technology at Self-Service and Kiosk Show

To sponsor 'Store of the Future' pavilion at Fifth Annual Self-Service &
Kiosk Show Sept. 28-29 in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- NetWorld Alliance, which produces
the annual Self-Service & Kiosk Show, announced today that IBM will sponsor
a "Store of the Future" pavilion at this year's show, scheduled for Sept.
28-29 at San Antonio's Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
The pavilion will feature leading-edge retail technology involving
store kiosks, supermarket technology, self-checkout and even health-related
kiosks, much of which has never been seen before by the public.
"This is self-service technology that is rapidly becoming a part of our
everyday lives," Dick Good, CEO of NetWorld Alliance, said. "If you are a
retailer, you can get early hands-on experience with these new technologies
in the Store of the Future pavilion. It's kind of like test-driving the
latest sports car before the dealers have them in their showrooms."
Among the highlights in the IBM Store of the Future pavilion: the next
generation of IBM Self Checkout, IBM Personal Shopping Assistant, which
attaches to shopping carts to enhance the customer experience and provide
targeted marketing to shoppers; IBM Anyplace Kiosk, an ultra-compact
integrated unit that serves a variety of needs, such as deli ordering and
price scanning; and applications such as loss prevention and digital
merchandising.
"Self-Service & Kiosk Show attendees are always looking for ways to
enhance and differentiate their customer experience," said show director
Terry Thompson. "They're also looking for ways to use self-service
technology as part of an integrated business strategy, which is what this
type of advanced technology is specifically designed to do."
In addition, the IBM booth will feature Virgin Life Care's HealthZone
kiosk, which is a health and fitness rewards program designed to increase
return traffic to pharmacies and supermarkets. IBM will present a seminar
on how consumers are shaping the future for self-service solutions in the
marketplace.
The show will also feature a Photo Kiosk pavilion sponsored by the
Photo Marketing Association International and a C-Store Zone focused on
convenience store applications. To learn more about the show, visit
