I didn't say to have gov't provided Internet. What I said was that our gov't needs to get more involved in closing the digital divide. There are a lot of things our gov't can do to make sure we reach the full potential of the Internet. For instance, they can continue to promote true competition among the service providers (phone and cable companies) through the judicious use of the FCC. They can provide some for of tax and subsidy to make sure remote locations and underserved poor towns get access. They can also work with businesses to offer some sort of access to our poor communities. There's a lot that can be done, but we need leadership. You know, I thought Gore was a freak, but he sure was involved in Silicon Valley's welfare. Bush and friends are so disinterested in this countries technological future that they probably can't even spell Silicon Valley. We need leadership that understands that this countries future well-being is built on our staying ahead in technology, all sorts of technology. If we don't realize that, then our country will definitely be on the downswing for a long time to come.
