Thanks for the clarifying point! You are right. IF the 401K is with an active employer, yes, BE would be barred from changing brokers and would have limited investment options.

However, if memory serves, comments BE has made (way back) seem to indicate that the situation maybe different. Then, again it won't be the first time I'm wrong or have forgotten something! If this is a 401K from an OLD employer, then BE could/should roll over that 401K into an IRA and pick a better broker.
