You know it. Sleep deprivation plays a part--
I've had three laughing fits on the graveyard
shift, where my muscles go limp, I fall to
the floor, and, for several minutes, laugh
hysterically. Tears streaming, coworkers
looking on, great fun.

Probably releases endorphins or something.
Cortisol levels go down, this has to be
great for stress.

Quality and quantity is a factor of course.
