Gottfried,
I have tried that to no avail. I have tried running scandisk and defrag and both continually shut down due to this background program running (a corrupted file maybe)? Here is what is running when I hit Control/alt/delete from task manager:

Ctfmon
Msnmsgr
Avconsol
Loadqm
Motmon
Cpqeadm
Stimon
Em_Exec
Systray
Bttnserv
Vsstat
Vshwin32
Mdm
Hidserv
Rnaapd
None show any prompt stating not responding. Thanks for any help.
