OT - alerts I agree that the alerts are anxiety provoking to people not at risk, or who seemingly cannot do a great deal about it. OTOH, it was regular folk who took down the hijacked terrorist plane forcing it into an empty field in PA. And it was regular folk who secured the shoe bomber in flight over the Atlantic. We need to be careful that we don't underestimate what the regular citizenry could contribute. If I ran the country, I guess I would argue that inviting 290 million citizens to keep their eyes peeled and to help out by identifying unusual people or activities, especially when we live in such a target-rich environment, would be a helpful security adjunct. In fact, as I write this, I am reminded that during times of overt conventional war (ie, WWII), the citizenry was asked to do exactly this, and much more. Apollo
