I was hoping the stock would go up even a little with the release of the Beta. However, it seems as though this product won't be released untill August, and it would be December or January '98 before the product will get any serious attention. But we mustn't forget that it took Windows more than 3 versions to be deemed a success. Also, people will have to get used to the fact the the Office for Java is a considerably trimmed down office suite. With suites being so bloated nowadays, it is easy to notice the "missing" features. But I still think that if it is that hard for Corel to come up with a decent office for Java, I can't imagine how anyone else (including Lotus and Oracle) will have a better product due out before Corel's. So, the only thing TO do is to wait patiently on this one.
On another matter, someone on this thread recently asked about Word v. WP. Well, I've been an expert MS Word user for 7 years now! I compared yesterday Word '97 and WP 7, and I'm afraid to say that Word '97 is indeed much better. Its menus are better organized, it is more intelligent, it has a cleaner interface, it has unique features that are very usefull, and features are more easily accessible. I know for a fact that Corel is re-doing some of the menus and dialog boxes for WP 8, so a fair comparison would be for Word 97 and WP 8, but I don't have a beta copy of WP 8. So, the magazines are not biased when they all give Word 97 the top word-processing honors. I can't really blame Corel for this because they did not really create WP 7, the Utah team did. But WP 8 will be a Corel product (the Utah brains + Corel's ease of use and interface appeal expertise), so it will be interesting to compare again.
