SoftWindows(TM) 95 v4.0 for UNIX, the only cross-platform solution available today to include Microsoft(R) Windows
95(R), enabling users of RISC-based UNIX(R) workstations to run all Windows 95-based applications on their UNIX
desktops. The new version, which emulates a complete Pentium-based PC with networking and sound support, provides HP,
SPARC (SunOS 4 and Solaris 2.5) and IBM workstation customers with "two computers in one" by allowing them to run the
latest 16- and 32-bit personal productivity applications, including Microsoft Office 97, right alongside their workstation

SoftWindows 95 includes a complete, pre-installed copy of Insignia Solutions' optimized version of Microsoft Windows 95.

UNIX environment. Insignia's simple, flexible installation enables customers to install SoftWindows 95 in minutes.
Flexibility and Performance
SoftWindows 95 for UNIX offers faster performance than that of SoftWindows 2.0 for UNIX. In addition, SoftWindows 95
features TurboStart(TM), breakthrough technology that allows users to start Windows 95 in a matter of seconds, compared to
the several minutes it takes on a hardware PC. SoftWindows 95, which includes Windows 95, also gives SoftWindows 2.0
users the option to continue running Windows 3.11 or install Windows 95. Users choosing to run Windows 3.11 will realize
performance improvements of up to 35% over SoftWindows 2.0.
Complete Windows 95 Environment
SoftWindows 95 brings the Windows 95 environment to UNIX workstations, including Windows multimedia support, PC
networking and PC file sharing capabilities. New Windows sound support includes the ability to play .wav files and .avi
movies. The product also offers full integration between PC and UNIX environments, including cut and paste of text and
graphics, and data sharing through advanced common file sharing architecture. In addition, SoftWindows 95 supports long file
names, eliminating the "eight-dot-three" nomenclature limitation of earlier Windows versions.
SoftWindows 95 v4.0 provides a new Windows 95-optimized 32-bit NDIS driver which provides connectivity to all major
PC networks, including Novell NetWare, LAN Manager, Windows NT(R) Server, Banyan VINES, TCP/IP and WinSock
(both 16- and 32-bit) applications, enabling UNIX workstations to integrate into existing PC networks. And SoftWindows 95
is far more cost-effective than adding an actual hardware PC to a user's desktop.
Internet-Ready for Access to Virtually Everything on the World Wide Web
SoftWindows 95 v4.0 gives UNIX customers complete access to the Internet and their intranets with the inclusion of
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0, pre-installed. This makes browsing, downloading and manipulating PC content on the World
Wide Web easier. Also included with SoftWindows 95 are Microsoft Office Viewers which allow UNIX customers to access
and read PC documents on the Internet and intranets. New support for Adobe Acrobat, Real Audio, Macromedia
Shockwave, Java(TM) and ActiveX(TM) enables users to browse all data types on the Internet whether the content includes
images, sound, multimedia or interactive data. Now UNIX workstation owners have access to, and the ability to manipulate,

New Support for Sound and Multimedia
SoftWindows 95 includes a Windows sound driver that plays .wav and .avi files on workstations equipped with sound
support. SoftWindows 95 also supports PC speaker sound for DOS programs.
With new support for DirectX(TM), as well as complete SVGA emulation including VESA modes, multimedia capabilities are
enhanced for both Windows 95 and DOS.
